Here’s a beautiful review from our concert in Alphen in January.
In alle stukken is Kimura’s spel groots en meeslepend; in de Sonate nr.3 van Biber overrompelt ze compleet. Klavecinist en gambist geven haar voorbeeldig de ruimte. Janine Jansen en Liza Ferschtman kent iedereen, waaron (nog) niet deze ster Rie Kimura, vraag je je na dit optreden af. Dit geldt eveneens voor de gambist Robert Smith. Zelden hoor je zo’n spannende, intens klankrijke en verhalende dialoog, waarbij Smith opgaat in de ander, zonder aan kracht, aan muzikale mening in te boeten.
Kimura’s playing is magnificent and compelling in all the pieces; in the Sonata no.3 of Biber she runs completely wild. The harpsichordist and gambist give her the necessary space. Everybody knows Janine Jansen and Liza Ferschtman, but after this performance you ask yourself why not (yet) this star, Rie Kimura. This also applies to the gambist Robert Smith. Rarely do you hear such an exciting, intense sounding and narrative dialogue, in which Smith merges into the other voice, without losing power, to add musical opinion.
